This is what it looks like now:

Believe it or not, it has pretty much stayed this neat for the past week! Even in the midst of a major project.

If you have read my book I'm Not Neat But I'm Organized, you might be familiar with the different styles of organization. I am a Bower Bird, through and through, a highly forgetful person who needs things out in sight to remember to do them. This is why piles on my desk have been such a regular thing, because if I put things away, I forget to them!

But here's the new system. Poking around my office supply stash, I found some really nice slash pockets where I can put in my mini piles of things to do:

I have one folder for all the bills, and another folder for a paper I'm working on, etc. The nice thing about the slash pockets is:

• The papers don't fall out the side or bottom, such as when a file folder is used
• When I put the folders in a magazine file, I don't have to take it out to stuff another receipt or paper in
• I can lift out the entire folder when I am working on that particular project
• I can put the folder back in the magazine file if I don't finish, keeping my desk clear.

The folders all fit in the magazine file nicely. I write a little note on my weekly planner book as to when I will work on the project so I don't forget (or post it on my master catch-all list on gubb.net).

Unfortunately it appears that these pockets are not sold any more, but I also have a stash of paper slash pockets that will work just as well. There is another version of plastic pockets available at Office Depot.
