Nov 12, 2007 - Howard Hendricks Seminar |
We had the privilege of hosting Howard Hendricks as he spoke on discipleship and leadership. How amazing that at 87 years of age, he is still going strong teaching! A group of over 300 pastors and leaders were very blessed by his teaching.
One of the things we have learned is how the room size makes a large difference. Our worship center seats 1850 people for services. With 300 people trying to fill such a large space, it's very easy to suck the energy out of the group.
Instead, we use tables to fill the space out, and it also makes it easier for people to write. We also have a drop down curtain (right side of photo) to keep people from sitting in the bleachers in the back. It also gives the room a more cozy feel. Room dynamics is a very important part of a successful event.

Lessons learned:
• This event was done in partnership with the Western District of the Evangelical Free Church of America. Communication in advance is very important -- there were many phone calls and emails that went back and forth!
• There are still people who use overhead projectors! We forget that sometimes in our very high tech environment. :-) Not to knock people who use overhead projectors, but trying to use an overhead projector in a room that holds almost 2000 people is certainly a challenge. Our super tech guys figured out how to make it work!
• Remind people at the end of the event to pick up their equipment. Everyone was so excited at how well the event went that they left... with their equipment left behind!
